MOLLUSCS CULTURE

Italian molluscs culture represents a sector of considerable socio-economic importance, in relation to which Istituto Delta provides technical and scientific support to all operators in the supply chain: farmers, researchers and local Public Bodies:

  • Research and development;
  • Technical advice;
  • Seed supply

Technical advice

Our experts have the necessary competencies to offer technical-scientific advice to public and private entities. For clam, mussel and oyster farming, cultivation plans are drawn up, together with impairment estimation, growth and/or mortality, environmental assessments (SEA, EIA…) and plans for the valorisation of the product. Our technicians offer their knowledge in the drafting of research projects at national and international level, as well as their support in the technological transfer through vocational training.

Research and development

Istituto Delta, besides its registration in the National Research Registry (n. 53172DPY), is recognised as a scientific institute of research on fisheries and aquaculture in accordance with national decree DPR n.1639/68. In this field, Istituto Delta boasts twenty years of experience of research and studies on the biology and ecology of molluscs, on the development of controlled reproduction and cultivation techniques, and on the management of bred and wild populations.

    Seed supply

    Ever since its establishment, Istituto Delta has a shellfish nursery – C.Ri.M. (Centro Ricerche Molluschi – Shellfish Research Centre), in its separate base in Goro (FE). While retaining mainly scientific connotations, the facility produces small quantities of Philippines Manila clam (Ruditapes philippinarum) and cupped oysters (Crassostrea gigas) juveniles. The production relies on selected breeders and is destined to farmers or to research centres for study purposes.
